Volume Practice: A Chiropractor's Success Story
Category: Practice Growth
Author: Thomas O. Morgan, D.C.
Publisher: Link/Morgan Press, Mt. Dora, Florida
Softcover book -- 240 pages
"Building your practice" are buzz words these days. The mere
mention of this phrase conjures up visions of expensive consultants
and endless seminars. While consultants and seminars are
beneficial, there is a great deal to be learned from this book,
priced at only $19.95. Just like the seminars, you may not agree
with everything in the book, but there is a wealth of ideas on
building a practice from the inside out.
As a chiropractor, your job is to help sick people get well and
keep healthy people well. When you treat the most people you can,
without sacrificing quality care, you are giving more service and
doing your job well. The practicing doctor and student alike can
learn from Dr. Morgan's experience.
Volume Practice is certainly an appropriate title for Dr. Morgan's
experience. He averaged 1,200 patient visits per week for a three
year period. In one day alone, he adjusted 400 patients. If your
goal is a high volume practice, it is wise to learn from someone
who has done it.
Dr. Morgan has over 25 years experience in practice and has served
on the Mississippi Board of Chiropractic Examiners and in various
ICA offices. He has been to many technique and management seminars
over the years and shares the best of what he's learned in his
book.
Volume Practice is divided into 77 chapters, with an average
chapter length of about three pages. This concise format allows
you to quickly read through a chapter and extract the information
that might benefit you. It affords the busy doctor the opportunity
to pick up the book every day and read a chapter to set the tone
for the day.
If any book makes a difference in your life or has even one good
idea that causes you to change your practice and become more
successful, the cost is of no consequence. If, however, you can
get a number of thought-stimulating ideas for only $19.95, it is a
true bargain. The value of Volume Practice is high compared to the
cost.
I enjoyed Volume Practice. It did take me 62 pages before I
dog-eared a page (I dog-ear pages with good ideas on them.) However,
after page 62 there were dozens of pages with bent corners. One
thing that did set a positive tone for the book was found on page
32: "We set ourselves apart as strong, principled, straight
chiropractors, acting as if we had a secret knowledge about
innate intelligence. I see this today as a separatist attitude
which has held the profession back in many ways." That was
refreshing to hear from the "other" side. Actually, I believe
there is no other side, only other chiropractors who practice
differently. Those who practice differently often have the most
to teach us. I learned a lot from Dr. Morgan.
